Funds raised during this year’s Drums & Dragons will allow Blue Ridge Health to greatly improve medical treatment options for low-income families, help The Community Table prevent families in Jackson County from going to bed hungry, and allow developmentally challenged adults to thrive with the help of caring Staff of the Irene Wortham Center. Your generosity will also help St. Gerard House improve their capacity to serve children with autism, allow caregivers respite while their family members attend MountainCare’s Adult Day services, and provide low-cost temporary housing at the Rathbun House, the only Hospitality House in the region, for non-Buncombe area residents whose families are undergoing medical treatment in nearby hospitals. Please join us and donate if you can!

We will meet near the Fresh Market on Highway 25 and walk 2.5 miles in on the MTS trail and then back to the Fresh Market. This trail comes out on the road at least twice, so keep this in mind with dogs on the trail.
Join us for twice weekly hikes that alternate among four fairly standard routes. Typically, we take the same hike twice weekly, three of which are along the mountains-to-sea trail, running alongside the Blue Ridge Parkway in Asheville. Once a month, we go on a hike among the 25 miles of hiking trails within the campus of Warren Wilson College. We focus on weekday hikes, with occasional weekend jaunts.

Join us on this exclusive historic driving tour of the west side of the Burnett Reservoir to explore part of the once thriving North Fork Valley community. The caravan will stop for participants to view the impressive chimney that was once part of a large boarding house where travelers on their way to Mt. The tour will also stop at the former entrance to Governor Zebulon Vance’s estate, Gombroon, as well as the Gombroon wall. Following that, we will pass the Left Hand Fork Intake and head to the Dan Burnett Place. Sweeten up this holiday season and give back with Asheville Proper’s Cookies for Charity kits launching on National Cookie Day, December 4 and running through Friday, December 18. The decorating kit includes four cookies, three icing bags and sprinkles all prepared by Asheville Proper’s pastry chef, Hilary Lamont, and is available for a $10 donation. All proceeds will go to Asheville-Buncombe Community Christian Ministry, a non-profit organization addressing poverty, hunger, homelessness and access to health care for the under-served in Buncombe County.
Cookies for Charity kits will be available during regular dinner reservations or can be pre-ordered by emailing the restaurant at [email protected] with your name, phone number, number of kits you’d like to purchase and date and time for pick-up. The kits will be available to pick-up in the restaurant Sunday, Monday, Wednesday and Thursday from 4 to 9 p.m. and Friday and Saturday from 4 to 10 p.m.
I’ve done part of this hike and it’s nice but I haven’t done the Pump Gap section. So I don’t know what this part of the trail is like other than it will be downhill and probably rocky. It should be about 3.5 miles one way but could be more.
This is a car shuttle hike meaning we leave cars at each end of the trail head. The hike is located in the Hot Springs so we could possibly have a meal after (but would be based upon COVID restrictions).
Let’s meet at the Ingles in Weaverville (the one across the street from Publix) at 9:45 with a departure at 10 a.m. Park near the gas station, road side. I have a white Hyundai. Suggested car pool donation is $5 each. If you carpool please wear a mask in the car and bring hand sanitizer.
We will drive out to the trailhead in Hot Springs, leave a car and then drive back up to the other trailhead. This part will involve carpooling so please make sure you are ok with that.
Once hiking, we immediately start uphill and this is one of the hardest parts of the hike but it’s short. We will travel along the AT with a gentle uphill most of the way, but it is scenic.
Eventually we will come to the intersection with the Pump Gap trail and take it back down to the trail head. Who knows what the trail holds? It’s about 1 mile down this section.
Please wear proper hiking shoes, hiking poles are recommended. We won’t be stopping for lunch so bring a snack if you want. Don’t forget the water.
I don’t put attendee limits on my hikes so you don’t have to worry about having a spot. Therefore, you can sign up a day before the hike.
