GREEN RIVER Gamelands Hike
Mar 21 @ 10:00 am – 5:30 pm
GREEN RIVER Gamelands

Mostlly Pullium Creek Trail, plus some Green River Cove trail. Moderate with some easy level of difficulty. Approx 6 miles R.T. on this there & back trail with elevation gain of 900 ft. It’s a beautiful trail that ends at the Green River just below the narrows, with rapids moving through large boulders. On the way there, there’s a tedious creek crossing with wiggly step-stones, requiring good footwear & maybe hiking poles. Plan to learn about the beautiful early-blooming wildflowers there, and a few trees. NOTE: Sorry, no doggies this trip due to Pullium Creek crossing. This hike is for experienced hikers, or one can contact the hike leader with questions/concerns.

Level: Moderate

Signup Instructions: All hikers please RSVP to hike leader Lisa McWherter

Jeff Dunham: Seriously!
Mar 21 @ 5:00 pm
ExploreAsheville.com Arena

America’s favorite ventriloquist has just released his next Netflix Originals Stand-up Special, “Jeff Dunham: Beside Himself”, taped June 21st and 22nd at the American Airlines Center in his hometown of Dallas, TX. In addition to his usual cast of accomplices, Dunham introduces a brand new, never seen-on-TV character who gives his unique take on what it’s like to work at the White House under Trump. Following the success of 2017’s “Jeff Dunham: Relative Disaster,” the new show is Dunham’s second special for Netflix Originals, and the ninth in his impressive string of record-breaking stand up television events.

Dunham is also launching his new international tour, “Jeff Dunham: Seriously!.” His wildly successful live performances have been filling arenas across North America and the world, treating fans to more of his delightfully twisted cohorts, Peanut, Walter, José Jalapeño, Bubba J and Achmed the Dead Terrorist.

Dunham has built an entertainment empire over years of non-stop touring and performance innovation. With 10 million followers on Facebook and over 2.1 million YouTube subscribers, amassing well over a billion views, the comedian/ventriloquist has carved out his own unique space in the comedy world. His accomplishments have led to record-breaking viewership with his standup specials on NBC, Netflix and Comedy Central. His astonishing arena-packing power has put him on par with major music acts such as Bruno Mars and Metallica.

A Texas native, after graduating from Baylor University, Dunham moved to Los Angeles and soon became a sensation on the national comedy club circuit. He later conquered the comedy world by becoming a multi-platinum selling DVD artist and achieving record-breaking ratings on both cable and network TV. His 2015 stand-up special, “Unhinged in Hollywood,” debuted on NBC Primetime and ranked as the time period’s top non-sports program on the Big 4 in every key measure. The special was re-broadcast on Comedy Central and was the top rated special of the year for the entire network. Dunham’s previous stand-up specials, “Arguing with Myself,” “Spark of Insanity,” “A Very Special Christmas,” “Controlled Chaos,” “Minding the Monsters,” and “All Over the Map,” have garnered record-breaking numbers by either claiming “most watched” or “highest rated” on Comedy Central.

Dunham has made many cameo appearances across television and film, from the Emmy Award-winning comedy series “30 Rock,” “Angie Tribeca,” and “Dinner for Schmucks,” starring Steve Carrell and Paul Rudd.

His autobiography, “All By My Selves: Walter, Peanut, Achmed and Me,” was on the New York Times’ Best Seller list three weeks in a row. Dunham has also been awarded “Billboard’s Top Comedy Tour” for three years based on box office sales. Dunham is currently on the road through the end of the year and well beyond, with his cast of characters.

Adding to an amazing list of recent accomplishments, Dunham’s contribution to the world of show business and comedy was recognized in 2017 when he received a star on the “Hollywood Walk of Fame,” commemorating over two decades of superstardom.

Great Fallls CANCELLLED
Mar 21 @ 7:30 pm
ACT 35 Below

A man lost in his life drives across the American West with his stepdaughter-a young woman at the beginning of hers.  He’s trying to make peace with the ghosts of his past; she’s just trying to survive.

TRAITOR by Brett Neveu
Mar 21 @ 7:30 pm
The Magnetic Theatre

This modern adaptation of Henrik Ibsen’s An Enemy of the People follows the fate of a small suburb and its newly opened charter school. The science teacher, Dr. Stock, discovers issues on the school grounds and takes on a mission to inform the public. Both hilarious and heartbreaking, this play addresses themes of truth, greed and denial, while serving as a mirror for our outrageous political reality.

Well
Mar 21 @ 7:30 pm
NC Stage Company

Well is a funny and touching comedy about mothers and daughters, mind over body, social activism and theatre itself. Lisa, the onstage playwright, attempts a memory play about her force-of-nature mother, Ann, who though constantly ill manages to heal a community. The playwright asks the provocative question: “Do we create our own illness?” The answers she gets are much more complicated than she bargained for as the play spins dangerously out of control into riotously funny and unexpected territory.

Against Me! Orange Peel Concerts to be Postponed through March 31
Mar 21 @ 8:00 pm
The Orange Peel

We are working very hard with our artists to reschedule each of these shows to a safer time later this year. We are announcing rescheduled dates as we are able to get them confirmed, and will inform ticket buyers for each event when a new date for their intended concert has been solidified. Tickets will remain on sale while we work on determining a rescheduled date. Fans should hold on to their tickets, as they will be valid for the rescheduled performance date. If you are unable to attend a postponed show, please contact us at [email protected] or via phone during box office hours (Wednesday through Friday 12pm to 5:30 at 828-398-1837).

In the event that we are unable to find a new date and a show is fully cancelled, all buyers will be notified and tickets will be automatically refunded at the point of purchase. Please allow at least a week for this to be reflected in your bank account.

To pirate the title of one of their early songs (and still a set-list staple), Against Me! is a band that laughs at danger and breaks all the rules.

Fronted by Laura Jane Grace, AM!’s much-anticipated, Transgender Dysphoria Blues released in January 2014. The title of their sixth album offers a direct nod to news that shocked fans and shook up the rock world when it was dropped-Grace is a transitioning transgender person who revealed her story in the May 12, 2012 issue of Rolling Stone (readers curious to learn more about the transition can check out Laura Jane’s “My First Year as a Woman” journal online in Cosmopolitan).

Against Me! began as an anarchist solo act in Gainesville, Florida in 1997. After transforming into a traditional four-piece a few years later with the crucial addition of guitarist James Bowman, they quickly became a driving force in the punk scene-despite facing an abundance of unsolicited danger.

The first concert in our Beethoven celebration features composers who inspired and were inspired by Beethoven. Brazilian composer Ronaldo Miranda’s Temporal Variations reimagines Beethoven’s motives in a 21st century setting. Mozart’s D-minor piano concerto foreshadows the stormy nature of his successor in the genre. Brahms’ First Symphony answers the question of what the symphony could say after Beethoven — in fact, it was dubbed Beethoven’s Tenth Symphony after its premiere.

Program:

Miranda: Temporal Variations
Mozart: Piano Concerto No. 20
Brahms: Symphony No. 1
