Learn the ins and outs of sketch comedy in this eight-week course for adults led by Flat Rock Playhouse’s favorite comedic actor, Scott Treadway! Dive into the history of two-person comedy, learn about the straight man vs character actor and how to break down comedic beats and jokes in a script. Hone your skills in delivery, timing, and physicality as you pair up and perform a comedic scene, coached and directed by Scott. Laugh, learn and level up your comedy skills in this low-pressure, highly-humorous class.

Story Parlor presents Creativity Lab: a six-week exploration of the creative process, common blocks and obstacles, and ways to kickstart and sustain creative momentum.
Focused on the process and the act of doing, opposed to product or outcome, Creativity Lab explores ways to overcome fear, embrace curiosity, and channel our muse in all creative endeavors.
The six-week workshop is experiential, hands-on, and tactile. The Lab will utilize exercises to help cultivate imagination, innovation, and creativity. Each class will focus on a different part of the creativity process all while building a tool kit for dealing with obstacles in our way, creating positive habits for growth, and investigating the ways our personal narratives intersect with our work.

A custom Story Parlor notebook

Citizen Vinyl and Asheville Music School have teamed up for a silent auction fundraiser to benefit Asheville Music School’s Play It Forward capital campaign. This event raises funds for Asheville Music School’s Play It Forward capital campaign, securing their new facility in West Asheville. In addition to necessary upfits to our new space, we will be developing a music production studio (the AMS Sound Lab) in which students will learn to use modern music technology, equipment, and techniques. This new multi-use studio will allow us to offer group lessons, add additional programming with neighboring schools, and will serve as a rehearsal room with professional sound.
Asheville Music School is the largest nonprofit music school of its kind in Western North Carolina, serving over 300 students annually and providing sustainable and rewarding work for dozens of music educators. We offer private music lessons, band and ensemble classes, summer camps, master classes, and workshops for all ages and income levels. As a community school, our mission is to keep music education accessible to all, regardless of economic barriers. We accomplish our goals by offering need-based scholarships, an instrument-lending library, and by operating an outreach program that connects AMS students and teachers with the most vulnerable populations in our community.
In the sequel to Nunsense and Nuncrackers, Dan Goggin’s endearing, eccentric nuns sing zesty tunes with a country-and-western twang. Sister Amnesia (a.k.a. Sister Mary Paul), having discovered her true identity and desire to be a country singer, finally records her debut country album, “I Could Have Gone to Nashville,” and goes on tour to promote it. The show, filled with hysterical one-liners and infectious comic songs, is sinfully funny.
Sister Amnesia’s Country Western Nunsense Jamboree’s production team includes HT’s Artistic Director Victoria Lamberth as director, the musical direction of Laura Williams, choreography by Matilyn Hull and Dru Dykes as stage manager. WNC actors Karen Covington-Yow, Leisa Foronda, Sarah Henby, Hogan McLamb and Allison Starling complete the cast.

The mission of the Western Women’s Business Center is to reduce barriers and serve as a catalyst to the success of women entrepreneurs in Western North Carolina. The Western Women’s Business Center is a program of Carolina Small Business Development Fund, a statewide nonprofit Community Development Financial Institution (CDFI) with a mission to foster economic development in the state of North Carolina. The WWBC meets the needs of women entrepreneurs through one-on-one business coaching, workshops, and access to capital. Come and go as you please, this event is free.
There will be a food truck on site. Beer and cider on tap and we will have the fire-pit going. Bring a hammock to hang in the trees where the French Broad and Hominy Creek meet. There are disc baskets setup so don’t forget your putter. And of course bring your hiking shoes, the French Broad Greenway butts right up to Hominy.
All proceeds FART makes in April are going to Asheville Greenworks!
