No-Frills Halloween Dance Party!
We all know: this year is different. So, this is the deal and it’s not fancy:
We have no DJ; it’s a play list with some of our favorite dance music.
You have to dance outside in our parking lot. And, wear a mask. And, dance six feet apart from people you don’t know. And, don’t take candy from strangers. Just joking. But, it’s a good rule in general.
We’ll probably have a costume contest but guess what the prize is. Nothing. Simply the honor of winning. Which is something.
If you’re out, stop by. We’d be honored to be a part of your celebration because it’s our most favoritest time of year.

We will meet near the Fresh Market on Highway 25 and walk 2.5 miles in on the MTS trail and then back to the Fresh Market. This trail comes out on the road at least twice, so keep this in mind with dogs on the trail.
Join us for twice weekly hikes that alternate among four fairly standard routes. Typically, we take the same hike twice weekly, three of which are along the mountains-to-sea trail, running alongside the Blue Ridge Parkway in Asheville. Once a month, we go on a hike among the 25 miles of hiking trails within the campus of Warren Wilson College. We focus on weekday hikes, with occasional weekend jaunts.

Join us on this exclusive historic driving tour of the west side of the Burnett Reservoir to explore part of the once thriving North Fork Valley community. Mitchell would stay before they began the ascent to the highest peak in eastern North America. The tour will also stop at the former entrance to Governor Zebulon Vance’s estate, Gombroon, as well as the Gombroon wall. Following that, we will pass the Left Hand Fork Intake and head to the Dan Burnett Place. Next Stage Arts Project and the Putney Historical Society present “Hoedowns, Reels, and Frolics: Roots and Branches of Southern Appalachian Dance,” a virtual lecture by scholar of traditional music and dance, Phil Jamison, on Thursday, December 3 at 7:30 p.m.
The southern Appalachian square dance is a hybrid dance form that developed in the American South during the nineteenth century, and like the Appalachian musical traditions, these dances reflect the racial and ethnic diversity of the region. In this Zoom event, Phil examines the multicultural roots and historical development of these dances and identifies the components of earlier European, African, and Native American dance forms that combined to make them uniquely American. He will also discuss African-American and native American musicians and callers who at one time were present in New England. These include African-American musician and barber John Putnam (1825–1895), who was active as a fiddler and dance prompter in Greenfield, Massachusetts during the nineteenth century. Proceeds from this event will benefit the Putney Historical Society. For more information and to register for the Zoom, visit www.nextstagearts.org.
