Monthly Visitor is a new class series by Period Nirvana. Every month, we will host a speaker to teach a class or lead a workshop in their area of expertise. We’ll be kicking off the series with a basic course on pelvic floor anatomy, common issues such as stress/urge incontinence, and pelvic pain. The class will be about an hour long with the opportunity to shop for menstrual care and wellness products afterwards. “My journey as a physical therapist has developed greatly through the years. After graduating from Wheeling University in 2016, I spent time working in Virginia and West Virginia before falling in love with Asheville, North Carolina. I completed an orthopedic residency program in orthopedics in 2020 and became an Orthopedic Certified Specialist by the American Board of Physical Therapy Specialties (ABPTS). Since that time, I have also found my passion for treating individuals experiencing pelvic floor dysfunction. It quickly became clear to me that symptoms of urinary and fecal incontinence, frequency/urgency, pelvic pain, pain with sexual activity are under-reported and under-treated. I love empowering individuals to reclaim their confidence and help lift the feelings of isolation associated with it! I have completed extensive training to treat the pelvic health population through Herman and Wallace Pelvic Rehabilitation Institute, earning the Pelvic Rehabilitation Practitioner Certification, and Institute of Clinical Excellence.

Leave the week’s stress behind as you relax and reset your nervous system with this special clearing crystal gong bath.

We will begin with a brief overview of the current astrology aspects in our sky. Then enjoy a powerful yet relaxing 45 min. gong meditation followed by an integration.

When the gong sings, you listen. You listen listens with every cell of your body. You hear it and feel it. You begin to sense more. The obscure sounds leave your brain guessing and eventually surrenders to the soundwave as you begin to relax, feel and heal. The vibrational frequencies can awaken stagnant energy. The experience is like a personal dream. There are moments during a gong meditation where the subconscious can become more conscious, where illumination and insight follows.

During our time we will explore vocal exercises and sounds to activate your light language. The vocal exercises are great for clearing and moving energy throughout your body, while easing your nervous system. This creates space to allow more energetic flow through your whole being.

Following this interactive session, you then will lay down and receive sound and energy healing to integrate your process. We all have the ability to access light language and if you have been called or intrigued, please reach out!

This month, we invite Dr. Taylor Yankey to lead a workshop on contraception! This class will include a brief history, an overview of the hormones involved with menstruation to understand the variety of contraceptives, and a breakdown of all of the options for contraception. She will also cover how contraceptives can be used for more than preventing pregnancy.

This event is for anyone curious about contraception! Period Nirvana is an inclusive space and we welcome anyone who wishes to attend. This class is geared toward high-school and college aged folks, but is also appropriate for middle-schoolers who might be interested.

Dr. Taylor Yankey, PharmD, MPH is a pharmacist who currently serves as the primary pharmacist for the Sona Access Program at Sona Pharmacy & Clinic, a local independent pharmacy in Asheville, NC. She received her Doctor of Pharmacy and Master of Public Health degrees at East Tennessee State University in Johnson City, TN. Awarded the USPHS Excellence in Public Health Pharmacy Award in 2023, Yankey believes that a community pharmacist is the most accessible healthcare provider for rural and underserved communities. She strives to leverage pharmacy practice to enhance the holistic health of our community, working on projects related to medication adherence, medication access, health literacy, and the wellbeing of healthcare staff. International Overdose Awareness Day takes place on August 31st — in Asheville, OAD events will take place at Carrier Park from 12:30-5:30p Sunday. Join us in uplifting each other in recovery and honoring those we have loved and lost to overdose. This gathering will host panelists, a youth speaker, a guided writing activity, and community connection along with a collective honoring of loved ones lost. Free food from Equal Plates will be provided for lunch. We welcome friends, families, and community members in recovery as well as anyone who feels called to offer their heart to this meaningful day. Hosted by SeekHealing partnered with WNCAP, Buncombe County, UMOJA, RHA, Sunrise Community Center, and Vaya Health.
