The title of Buddy Guy’s latest album says it all: The Blues Is Alive and Well. The legendary blues artist’s eighteenth solo LP and follow-up to 2015’s Born to Play Guitar showcases his raw and unadulterated sound, its fifteen tracks a true pleasure for aficionados and genre newcomers alike. “I got children and grandchildren who didn’t know who I was, but nowadays we can play outdoor concerts and see kids that are eight, nine, twelve years old coming to me and saying, ‘I didn’t know who you was, but I read what Eric Clapton said about you,’” Guy explains when discussing his mindset around the new record. “I’m always trying to make an album that someone accidentally plays where some kid hears it, picks up a guitar, and helps keep the blues alive.”

‘Something You’ve Got’ is a genre exploring collaboration with two quintessential vocal interpreters, Reggie Headen and Peggy Ratusz. They join hips this evening and sing some of the greatest duet songs of ALL time! For this concert, their musical landscape will be cultivated by skillful arbitrators: Jonathan Pearlman on guitar, Jason DeCristofaro on piano/vibes, Connor Law on basses and Justin Watt on drums.

Reggie Headen is a native North Carolinian and graduate of the American Musical and Dramatic Academy in NYC. He sees the stage as a medium of many possibilities to connect and engage an audience. He started his professional career as a featured performer at New York’s famous Broadway concert venue Town Hall, playing to giants and peers in the industry. In fall 2018, Reggie moved to Asheville and since moving he’s had what he calls “A Return to Jazz”.  Though recently around town, he can be heard singing anything from Aretha Franklin to Jefferson Airplane. The power and panache of his live performances are ones for the history books.  Headen beguiles and astounds. A fearless performer and heartfelt old soul vocalist.

Blues/Jazz/Swing/ Old School Soul/R&B chanteuse Peggy Ratusz has been performing for nearly 45 years; the last 17, in WNC. Her versatility, range, depth and soul filled sincerity create a cyclical experience for audiences large and small. From cover tunes to originals, the scope of nostalgic to modern stylings she chooses to deliver effectively evokes the groove and embodies the lyrical content,  setting her apart from other great vocalists. For the past fifteen years, she’s either won or placed in the Western North Carolina Readers poll for Best in Blues. In 2016, she was named Best Vocalist as well as the area’s most noted musician who gives back to the community.

Director Elliot Weiner seeks a cast of 7 for the Readers Theatre Showcase series production of The Outsider. This production will be performed as readers theatre – no script memorization required! – and will have two performances on the Mainstage and one at the Reuter Center at UNCA.

No previous experience required!

OUTDOOR SHOW

Join us on Tuesday nights for Magnetic’s signature variety show. There will be an exciting mix of comedy, music, theatre, dance, magic and more! Smoky Park Supper Club is offering us their beautiful outdoor venue, and will be selling food and drinks. The event is BYOC (bring your own chair), and we will, of course, be following strict Covid safety protocols. We can’t wait to see you there!

Join us Tuesday nights, beginning April 13th, as The Magnetic Theatre teams up with the wizards at Smoky Park Supper Club to host a live, outdoor variety show. We’ll be filling Smoky Park’s gorgeous, riverside outdoor space with comedy, theatre, music and so much more.

There will be food and beverages available for purchase.

• This is a BYOC (Bring-Your-Own-Chair) event.
• In accordance with safety guidelines this show will be staged outdoors, with mask and social distancing protocols enforced. There will also be temperature checks and COVID waivers that need to be signed by each attendee at the gate.
• Please arrive at least 15 minutes before the 7pm showtime.
• We do require that masks be worn at all times unless you are actively eating or drinking.
