For runners and walkers of all ages, this event is hosted by the North Buncombe Middle School PTO and designed to raise much-needed funding for the school. This rolling hills course will start and finish on the school campus. Chip timing will be provided by Right on Time.

Make your leap day 2020 memorable by signing up for the 8th annual Chilly Challenge 8K Race & 1-Mile Chili Chase Fun Run and Chili Cook-off in Weaverville, NC! Runners will enjoy a brisk scenic run and post-race celebration that includes a tasty chili lunch, live music and fantastic prizes. For runners and walkers of all ages, this event is hosted by the North Buncombe Middle School PTO and presented by TS Orthodontics to raise funding for the school.

The chip timed 8K race takes place on a rolling hills course with start and finish on the school campus. Sign up by February 15th and save! The 8K entry fees are $35 for adults and $20 for students. The 8K fees increase $5 on February 16th. The 1-Mile Chili Chase entry fee is $15. Runners will warm up after the race with a chili lunch including cornbread and fixings. Free t-shirts are guaranteed for all participants who register by February 5th. Spectators can purchase a chili lunch for $5. This year’s event will be held on Pi Day, Saturday, March 14, at Pi time, 3:14 p.m. Runners will run 3.14 miles around UNC Asheville’s campus and celebrate with pie at the finish line. The event is open to the public with an early-bird rate of $15 before Feb. 15. Runners who sign up before March 1 will receive a t-shirt and swag bag, and registration continues through March 14 at a cost of $20, with on-site registration and check-in starting at 2 p.m. the day of the race. The fun run includes a pie baking contest, judged by Math Leaders from the Marvelous Math Club, with prizes awarded, and this year will feature a raffle. Registration includes a raffle entry for each runner. Registration also is available for the pie contest, without the run, by filling out the interest form at unca.edu/pi-run.

Proceeds from the annual Pi(e) Run will benefit the Asheville Initiative for Math at UNC Asheville and its Marvelous Math Club at Pisgah View Community Center. Marvelous Math Club is a partnership between UNC Asheville, Asheville Housing Authority, and Asheville City Schools. The Club uses math as a catalyst to build leadership skills, create community and provide a space for individualized academic support and social-emotional growth.

Bike Love, Asheville on Bikes (AoB) annual gala event, returns to Isis Music Hall on Saturday, Feb. 29.

The event features the music of The Hot Sun (featuring Stephanie Morgan) and DJ JutRut and includes a cycle centric silent auction supported by a variety of bicycle and active living manufacturers. Review the silent auction items on our online gallery.

The Merrell Adventure Dash is all about getting outside and challenging yourself to work hard for your good time. Suitable for families as well as adults, participants will negotiate a series of natural and man-made obstacles along the 5K course, including balance components, climbs and nets, a river-run, and raft crossing. This holiday weekend, enjoy a fun, family-friendly adventure run in the beautiful Nantahala Gorge. Merrell Adventure Dash participants can choose between the 5K dash or a 1K fun run. Kids aged 12 and under race free with a participating adult.

Growing Wild Forest School is excited to provide a dynamic, nature-based Kids Program at this year’s OGS Spring Conference. Our talented staff educators believe in nurturing kids outdoors to help them grow and reach their full potential.  We believe in supporting and engaging the whole child, inside and out. We will offer crafts, science experiments, outdoor activities, and indoor and outdoor play opportunities on the Mars Hill University campus during the conference hours. Children should be dressed to go outside and be comfortable for outdoor play activities. Snacks and water bottles should be brought each day. We will break for lunch from 12:45-1:45 for children to eat with their parents or caregivers.

• March 7th and 8th, 2020, 8:30-5:45 (lunch break, children eat with parents 12:45-1:45)
• Location: Check in and headquarters will be in Spilman Parlor at Mars Hill University, though kids will be out and about exploring the campus throughout the day!

Parents, please provide daily snacks and water bottles, along with a change of clothes for younger aged children. Please have children dressed for outdoor play, as we do plan to go outside

We’re having kittens! Join Triskelion Brewing Company and Blue Ridge Humane Society on Saturday, March 7th for a Kitten Shower! Come support BRHS and help them prepare for the hundreds of kittens that will pass through their doors this year. The Blue Ridge Humane Society, Inc., is a 501(c)3 animal welfare organization started in 1950 dedicated to ensuring the highest quality of life for animals in Henderson County and our neighboring communities. BRHS cares for pets awaiting adoption at the Adoption Center; offers low-cost vaccine clinics, animal education programs, pet training classes, and youth education and projects; coordinates community pet food assistance, emergency vet assistance, and the Spay Neuter Incentive Program (SNIP), which is a collaboration with Henderson County, the City of Hendersonville, and the Henderson County Animal Services Center.

Dig out your bell bottoms, put on your dancing shoes and get ready to boogie because we’re throwing a Funkraiser for the Arts dance party and auction! Headlining the event will be the popular Freeflow Band who the Mountain Express called “The Guardians of Funk.” Ticket price includes delicious hors d’oeuvres, desserts, beer and wine.

The Freeflow Band is known to throw an “irresistible dance party” with a set-list full of Motown, R&B, Soul and of course, Funk. The dynamic foursome is made up of lead singer and percussionist Lil’  Rog Ware, lead singer Kazual Collins on keyboards, vocalist and bassist Darrell ‘The Black Note’ Griffin and LT on lead guitar. Local comedian and performer Mondy Carter of Reasonably Priced Babies fame will bring his own smooth vibe to keep the action moving.

The upper level of the Arts Center will be brimming with silent auction items donated from local businesses. Items from clothing, jewelry and art to baskets, packages and gift certificates will be available to bid on.
