At the brewery, you will also be able to participate in a free raffle where you receive gifts donated from local businesses like free salsa classes, local theatre performances, books and more! I want you to know and love my city as much as I do and I am excited to share this experience with you!

Pay what you want at the end!

River Arts Tour
We will meet outside of the Magentic Theatre and your guide will be wearing a blue T-shirt !

I recommend parking in the public parking lot directly beside the theatre for free parking close to the meeting spot!
“My Ancestors Sent Me,” Harry Rivera solo exhibit, open house
Apr 10 @ 1:00 pm – 6:00 pm
Art Garden AVL
Join us for a Soft Opening of our new expanded exhibition space as we welcome painter Harry Rivera for a solo show! We’ve almost doubled our square footage at Art Garden with a new gallery, more working studios, and a workshop space large enough to accommodate social distancing for limited classes, returning soon!
Our first guest artist in the expanded exhibit space, Harry Rivera, makes “art as a tool for helping viewers escape the societal matrix of obligation and return to a more authentic, internal motivation.” His art is designed to spark a dormant sense of soul and oneness. Bold and highly textural, these large and powerful works explore personal and universal themes, all using recycled and repurposed materials.
The exhibit will run April 10 – May 31. The Open House on April 10th will be a relaxed reception, from 11 am – 6 pm. Harry will be in the space on April 10th for the open house to share about his work. We’ll also be hosting a plant sale or two with his small business, Purple Lotus Gardens, throughout the spring. Check our social media for updates!
~~~ All gallery and garden activities socially distanced, with masks required.
~~~ With our new expanded space, we don’t foresee too many issues in observing a safe capacity limit, but we’ll be keeping a close eye on it. Our choice to stretch the reception into an all day open house is also a precaution to that end. You’re welcome to call ahead and check in
~~~ The exhibit will be available to view and shop virtually on our website. Private in-person viewings can be scheduled as well. Email [email protected] with inquiries.
Artist Bio:
Harry Rivera born in ‘77, raised in Brooklyn, New York. In his adolescence, Rivera was immersed in raw street culture of gangs, graffiti, stick-ups, and unrelenting urgency. At fifteen, he was sentenced to a year at the Riker’s Island Juvenile Detention Facility. During his time at Rikers, a teacher introduced him to the philosophies of the Black Panther movement, and to the broader idea of black consciousness. Since then, he has expanded the ideas he met with there to incorporate what he refers to as his “Indigenous Self”, focusing on his Puerto Rican heritage. He views his art as a tool to help its viewers escape the societal matrix of obligation and return to a more authentic, internal motivation. His art is designed to spark a dormant sense of soul and oneness that he believes many people today do not spend time cultivating. Rivera is a father of 4, a beginning farmer living in Marshall NC with his partner and youngest son. Where they have chickens and grow a large majority of their own food. They have a small business called Purple Lotus Gardens. If you want to follow along @fx6surfingworldz @purplelotusgardens
American Rescue Plan Act Impacts to COBRA Health Insurance
Apr 10 @ 6:29 pm – 7:29 pm
Online w/ Henderson County Chamber of Commerce
Constangy, Brooks, Smith & Prophete has shared guidance on the impacts to COBRA resulting from the American Rescue Plan Act through their Legal Bulletin #876.
According to the bulletin: if an individual became or becomes eligible for COBRA because of an involuntary change in status, and if the individual has any eligibility left between April 1 and September 30, 2021, and if the individual doesn’t have other coverage available through a spouse’s employment or the individual’s new employment, then he or she will get “free” COBRA coverage. The employer then can recoup the costs with a credit on payroll taxes. The plan sponsor will have to do a great deal of administrative work figuring out how to send which notice to which individuals.
Employer-sponsored health plans will be required to provide six months of “free” COBRA coverage to most plan participants who
  • Are eligible for COBRA continuation coverage, and
  • Lose coverage because of involuntary employment termination or reduction in hours.
The Plan must inform the eligible individual about the new benefit and provide the option to sign up for what amounts to a premium waiver for the six-month period. An employee or former employee will be eligible for this “free” coverage benefit if any of the following apply during the April 1-September 30 time period:
  • The individual becomes eligible for COBRA coverage
  • The individual currently has COBRA coverage,
  • The individual would have been eligible for COBRA coverage but declined it
  • And the individual is not eligible for other coverage, including through new employment or a spouse’s plan.
Outdoor Stage: Sicard Hollow
Apr 10 @ 7:00 pm
Salvage Station-Outdoor Stage
Sicard Hollow
Sicard Hollow is a four-piece progressive bluegrass band who formed with a mutual passion for pushing the boundaries of genre. Heavily influenced by the Grateful Dead and New Grass Revival, these young pickers bring new energy to a timeless style with a combination of fearless improvisation and instrumental prowess.
Having toured extensively around the southeast for the last year, this group of players continues to grow their sound with every performance. Having always thought of themselves as a live band, producer, Dan Davis, had his work cut out for him while producing their debut album, Secret of the Breeze, at Zac Brown and Oliver Wood’s Southern Ground Nashville. The result was a perfect encapsulation of the band’s genre-kicking tenacity. There is no slowing down for Sicard Hollow.
“Who is Virginia Man?
Are they your hometown rapper from the beach? Are they a singer/songwriter from the mountains? Are they the chef of your favorite restaurant in uptown, or your favorite tattoo artist downtown? Truth be told, Virginia Man is anyone. Virginia Man is everyone.
This Virginia Man is a 3 piece rock and roll band from Fredericksburg VA that sings lyrics from the bottom of your heart in songs from your fondest memory. Comprised of Kristian Lietzan (vocalist/guitarist), Jack Rutherford (drums), and Stephen Amoruso (Bass), their music will make you feel like coffee and cigarettes while reading your favorite author at 7:30 in the morning, reminiscing on the 3 course meal you shared with the love of your life the previous evening, they’re the silly geese, you always want a party, and they’re good people that make music for good people, and that feels good.”
Donor Turnout Hits Historic Low
The Blood Connection extends collection hours in response to urgent need
The Blood Connection, the community blood center, is seeing historically low blood donor turnout and has extended its center hours in response to this urgent need. According to the latest TBC data, local hospitals have consumed twice as much blood as the community has donated. If this trend continues, it could cause a blood rationing event or blood shortage for hospitals in this community. Donation centers are now open earlier and later to accommodate more blood donors.
Adopt-A-Storm Drain Program
Apr 11 @ 9:00 am – 7:00 pm
Online w/ RiverLink
RiverLink is partnering with the City of Asheville and local volunteers to protect water quality through an Adopt-A-Storm Drain Program. Pollution from stormwater runoff is the biggest threat to clean water in our urban streams. Stormwater is rain that flows across the landscape—rather than soaking into the ground—where it picks up pollutants before flowing into a storm drain and emptying into the nearest stream.
With funding from the Pigeon River Fund, a grant administered by the Community Foundation of Western North Carolina, this pilot program will pair volunteers with a storm drain in the Central Asheville Watershed.
The goal is to get 100 storm drains adopted in 2021. Volunteers will be awarded with fun prizes for their commitment and enthusiasm, and  if successful, the Adopt A Storm Drain program will expand to include other areas in the City of Asheville.
How does it work?
Select a storm drain in a convenient location of the Central Asheville Watershed. It could be in front of your home, business, or where you exercise regularly. By adopting a storm drain, you commit to checking the drain in between rain events and keeping it clear of litter and debris. All it takes are gloves and a trash bag. Then with a smartphone or computer, you can report debris cleaned/cleared, and conditions such as illegal dumping or flooding. In a matter of minutes, you help protect water quality and prevent street flooding from clogged drains!
