Right now, The City of Asheville Homelessness Division is hosting the February series. Debbie Alford Homeless Strategy Specialist – Training and Development, leads us through the 3-part community education sessions addressing issues surrounding the experience of homelessness.

Session 1: Understanding Homelessness – causes and local landscape

Session 2: Understanding Solutions to Homelessness – community response, present & future

Session 3: Personal Response to Homelessness – how to partner with local agencies and take action

These are progressive educational sessions, so while we recommend taking all three, it is not required to take them in any particular order. You can sign up and attend as it works for you.

Students will learn all about teamwork as they work together with their classmates and a professional Teaching Artist to perform scenes and songs from a short musical. Each actor will receive their own part with lines and songs to learn. Class time will be used for rehearsal and a performance complete with costumes and props will take place on the final class day.

Based on a story by Daphne du Maurier and made famous by Alfred Hitchcock, four strangers grapple with birds who have been transformed from creatures of beauty into terrifying, menacing predators.

Plan to collaborate with other musicians at Sideways Farm & Brewery in Etowah. Bring your instruments and voices and enjoy making music and networking with other artists, while enjoying the beautiful scenery. Food truck is on site and beverages available for purchase from Sideways (small
batch craft beers, hard jun, ciders, wine, and non alcoholic drinks). Family, fans, friends, and leashed dogs are all welcome!

collaborating in the fields, on the stage, or under the patio

Award-winning Storyteller Tim Lowry will be joined by special guest Lee Lyons in a show about love, life, and lunacy. Lee is an author and actress hailing from the Appalachian town of Highlands, NC but she’s got roots in the South Carolina Lowcountry and family tree branches that reach back to Ireland. Bluegrass music is currently experiencing widespread popularity among mainstream
audiences but transforming the vintage sound into music that could gain popular appeal
didn’t happen overnight. At 25 years old, Yonder Mountain String Band continues to
exist at the forefront of the progressive bluegrass scene as undeniable innovators and
pioneers of the modern jamgrass movement. Blending bluegrass with elements of rock,
alternative, psychedelic and improvisational music, Yonder Mountain String Band
brought their high-energy acoustic sound and light show into rock n’ roll settings with
tremendous success, proving it was possible for a bluegrass band to not only exist but
excel in a rock world, without drums. The inroads they made created opportunities for
like-minded acoustic bands to perform at festivals, rock clubs, theaters and stadiums

compelling original music and anything goes attitude cultivated a spirit of collaborative
improvisation that continues to fuel today’s progressive bluegrass and jamgrass scenes.
It is a testament to the legacy of Yonder Mountain String Band that their original
songs and unique interpretations of covers are regularly performed by next generation
bands in the scene.
