Tryon Arts and Crafts School is pleased to announce that our next exhibition hits very close to home with a lively presentation of painted wooden toys made circa 1915 through the 1930s by the Tryon Toy-Makers and Wood-Carvers. In a special addition, the exhibition will be complemented by a display of handcrafted wooden toys by Younger Brother Woodworking, the studio of local artisan Ray Buckmaster. Together, these two exhibits celebrate both Tryon’s historic and contemporary traditions in toy-making craftsmanship.

This exhibition reflects the enduring spirit of craftsmanship that has long defined Tryon, connecting past and present in a celebration of artistry, history, and community.

Elderflower Community, a local non-profit, is thrilled to announce its grand re-opening on June 26, 2025. The celebration marks a significant milestone for the Elderflower property, which has been rebuilt and enhanced after being forced to close its doors due to the devastating impact of Hurricane Helene last fall.
The grand re-opening event will take place from 4-7pm at the newly renovated building located at 1611 Charlotte Hwy, Fairview. All community members are invited to attend and celebrate the remarkable confirmation of our community’s resilience and strength. The event will feature a ribbon-cutting ceremony, tours of the property, food, and music.

Kanuga is thrilled to announce the return of its Summer Day Camps for rising first through sixth graders, with five weeklong sessions planned for June and July 2025, at its Bob Campbell Youth Campus. Registration is now open.

In the serene mountains of Western North Carolina, campers will find fun and adventure in action-packed sessions staffed by well-trained, compassionate adults who specialize in keeping young children safe, entertained and engaged. Kanuga’s wooded campus offers children the opportunity to play, explore, swim in mountain lakes, hike to scenic vistas, paddle canoes, create arts and crafts and so much more.

“My journey as a physical therapist has developed greatly through the years. After graduating from Wheeling University in 2016, I spent time working in Virginia and West Virginia before falling in love with Asheville, North Carolina. I completed an orthopedic residency program in orthopedics in 2020 and became an Orthopedic Certified Specialist by the American Board of Physical Therapy Specialties (ABPTS). Since that time, I have also found my passion for treating individuals experiencing pelvic floor dysfunction. It quickly became clear to me that symptoms of urinary and fecal incontinence, frequency/urgency, pelvic pain, pain with sexual activity are under-reported and under-treated. This is truly a community event designed for participants of all ages and fitness levels. Whether you’re a seasoned runner looking for a fun local race or a family wanting to enjoy some active time together for the holiday, this event is perfect for you. We’re excited to be partnering with Food Connection as our nonprofit partner for the 3rd year in a row.
We encourage bringing your family and friends to make it a memorable group experience. Register four or more people at the same time and receive a 15% discount. Strollers and dogs are welcome but are asked to start at the back of the pack. Walkers are welcome but we ask that you plan on finishing within an hour and 15 minutes. Celebrate the Full Moon by immersing yourself with the healing vibrations of a Sound Bath! The full moon offers a boost in healing to our energy field.

Join your host Kristin Hillegas, for a one-hour Serenity Sound Bath and experience a deeply immersive, full-body sound and vibrational experience. A sound bath can cleanse your soul, restore your balance, surround you with peace and tranquility and stimulate healing.

Note: Please bring a yoga mat/pillow/blanket since you will be lying on the floor. Wear warm, comfortable, and flexible clothing.

Also, Michael’s newly published book, The Story of Asheville’s Water: Before and Beyond Hurricane Helene, will be available for purchase before and after the program.

Michael Holcombe’s presentation will introduce attendees to his research and the story of the Asheville, North Carolina water system, and focus on the water sources for the city, from 1883 through to the present day (Along with interesting factoids!).
