The Art Dash 5k in Asheville — on Saturday, July 27, starting at 8:30 a.m. — helps raise fund for LEAF Global Arts.
Runners can enjoy a fast, flat out and back run along the River Arts District Greenway, with Asheville-based performance artists along the race course showcasing our city’s special style. Start and end at the Smoky Park Super Clubs Boat House riverside, 350 Riverside Drive.
For an event donation of $10 per person, you and your friends are invited to join choreographer Heather Maloy for a special pre-show chat and champagne toast. Held in the theater while the dancers warm up on stage, Maloy will share insight about the choreographic process, her unique artistic sensibilities, where she finds the company’s exceptional dancers and much more.

Welcome to our weekly community contra dance in West Asheville! The Monday Night Dance has been around for decades, and we are carrying the torch forward! We are a loving, kind, and safe dance community and highly encourage masking during the dance. No derogatory comments in relation to masking will be tolerated! We encourage non-maskers to mask while partnering with a dancer wearing a mask, or to at least ask if the person would like them to mask while they dance with them.
Time: Contra dancing 8:15–10:30pm, with a beginner lesson starting at 7:45 and a waltz session ending the evening.
Location: St. George’s Center for Art and Spirit, 1 School Rd., Asheville, NC 28806
Cost: $12–$45 sliding scale, CASH ONLY. Please pay as much as you can afford to cover the cost of the wonderful live music, the caller, sound person, rent, and other expenses! ATMs are available at banks on Patton Ave., as well as cash back options at local gas stations and grocery stores.
Requirements: Face masks and sign-in agreeing to the dance’s Safety Guidelines.
Please enter through the front red doors to the sanctuary. Extra parking available in the lots between Moore’s Foot and Ankle and St. George’s (please avoid parking in front of their practice.) Folks are welcome to sell their wares, like jewelry, dance shoes, dance clothes, pottery, etc. They are also welcome to leave business cards and help wanted or work needed ads. Additionally, the Take Some Leave Some Closet is a new feature of the MND. You can take any clothes, food, produce, feminine products or first aid supplies that we have, and as you are able you can also leave some to replenish. Private times to receive from the closet can also be arranged during the week depending on to the dance organizer’s availability.
We emphasize safety here at the MND. Mask wearing is strongly encouraged, and courtesy to those choosing to mask is required. No discrimination to those wearing masks will be tolerated! The Light Up the Night 5K is a fundraising, glow-in-the-dark, night-time, walk or run and will be timed by Finish Well Timing. This will be Western Carolina Rescue Ministries’ 6th annual Light Up the Night 5k race to raise funds and spread awareness of the ministry’s community impact. This event will take place on Friday August 2, 2024, at 7:00 p.m. in Asheville’s Carrier Park, and all proceeds from this event will directly benefit WCRM.
Last year, your support gave a second chance to 26 moms and 46 babies in our Abba’s House Recovery Program. The success of these moms would not be possible without your valuable contribution.
As we embark on another year of service and outreach, we are excited about the opportunities that lie ahead. This year, we want to include you in playing an even greater role in our ministry. We will be pursuing funding for the need of life transformation across all our programs.
This event is one of the Ministry’s most significant opportunities to raise funds in support of our community and these funds will be directly used to break the cycles of homelessness and addiction in our region. For the past 43 years, WCRM has been serving the homeless community of Asheville providing rescue, recovery, and restoration to people in crisis. We care for our clients with dignity, providing help, hope, and opportunity for our ministry participants to reengage in society. Whether it’s a hot meal, a warm shelter, or recovery from addiction, our compassion shines on everyone we meet.

Beginner’s workshop lesson at 7:30 P.M., then 8-11 P.M. Contra Dance with Country Waltzing at the break and the final dance. This is a partner dance but it’s not necessary to come with a partner. We have different live bands and callers.

Spend 2+ hours as a jeweler!
Work with silver wire to create a set of three textured stacking rings. Learn the techniques you need to fuse the silver, hammer, and stamp to your liking, and we’ll then polish the rings to a nice shine. Leave class feeling accomplished and ready to show off your work!
You will use a torch! (Don’t be intimidated, our highly skilled and fun instructors will walk you through it!)
Please wear close-toed shoes and tie long hair back for safety. All tools and materials needed for class will be provided.

For its first big community event, Phoenix Fire Coffee is hosting Phoenix Festival – a fundraising event and small business expo showcasing local artists, food trucks, and live music. The event will be at The Outpost near Carrier Park on August 2liv4th. Food and vendors open from 4pm to 9pm. Music goes until 11pm. We hope to use this event to raise money for our grand opening while simultaneously uplifting small businesses and fostering a sense of community.
Admission is free, but a donation of $5 or more would be greatly appreciated.

Robin and Samata will facilitate a safe and nurturing environment for you to embark on your creative journey through the Artist’s way. Together they have over 50 years of experience leading groups and facilitating meaningful experiences.
Join us for this fun filled and always popular in-person annual summer series! Classes will meet weekly and will cover topics including: the wise woman tradition of healing, summer skin care, herbal support for stress, the medicinal uses of popular garden plants, wild weeds, kitchen remedies and much more. This course will also include an introduction both essential oils and flower essences. Throughout this course you will form intimate relationships with over 20 popular herbal remedies.
Support a child in learning to read! Read to Succeed volunteer reading tutors teach elementary students to read using phonological awareness and phonics curricula that aligns with Asheville City and Buncombe County Schools instruction. Tutors attend 6+ hours of training and work one-to-one or in small groups with elementary students throughout the school year (during and after school).
