ASHEVILLE, N.C. (Nov. 4, 2024) – Tanger Outlets Asheville delivers cheer this year, ushering in the holiday season with a festive Tree Lighting and Santa Arrival Celebration Sponsored by Paramount Kia of Asheville on Saturday, Nov. 16 from 4 – 6 p.m. The open-air outlet destination will be full of cheerful experiences, including festive music from the Enka High School Marching Band, strolling magic, face painting, giveaways and the much-anticipated arrival of Santa Claus. Children are invited to share their Christmas wishes, and families can capture holiday moments at the selfie station throughout the evening. Santa will light the tree at 6 p.m. in the center circle near Zales Outlet and Kay Jewelers. Immediately following the tree lighting ceremony, Santa will greet guests in the food court, where TapSnap Phototainment will provide a complimentary 4-by-6-inch photo and digital download of a single image, available while supplies last.
Festivities will coincide with the holiday shopping season at Tanger Asheville, where guests can expect to find the best deals on the latest gifting trends and top items for everyone on their list including athleisure wear and accessories from Nike, American Eagle, Coach, Pandora, Polo Ralph Lauren and Under Armour. TangerStyle’s holiday offering kicks off Nov. 1 and continues through Nov. 24, granting TangerClub members an extra 15% – 25% off at participating brands. New members upgrading to TangerClub Gold in November or December will receive a $10 gift card to a selection of brands.

For nearly two decades at clubs across the country, and as the host of three hit podcasts, Nikki Glaser has honed her shockingly honest, no-holds barred style of comedy, solidifying herself as one of the funniest voices in comedy today.
Glaser is currently on the road with her global THE GOOD GIRL stand-up tour, which kicked off in January 2023 and will continue through September 2024. Upcoming, Glaser returns to screens on May 11 with her highly anticipated second HBO comedy special, SOMEDAY YOU’LL DIE and the new CW series LOVERS AND LIARS, which she hosts and executive produces. Her first HBO comedy special, GOOD CLEAN FILTH, which was nominated for a Critics Choice Award for Best Comedy Special.
Nikki took her love of reality TV to the next level by starring in, and executive producing, the E! half-hour reality sitcom WELCOME HOME NIKKI GLASER? Uprooted from her fast-paced Hollywood lifestyle, Nikki returns to her hometown of St. Louis where she embarks on a hilarious and often uncomfortable journey of self-discovery. Unfiltered, relatable, and unapologetically herself, Nikki navigates friends, family, and romance as a homegrown local celebrity.
Nikki was a standout at the Comedy Central Roasts of Alec Baldwin, Bruce Willis, and Rob Lowe, which led to her guest-hosting JIMMY KIMMEL LIVE! and hosting the inaugural edition of the 2021 MTV MOVIE & TV AWARDS: UNSCRIPTED, which earned her stellar reviews. She also had memorable film and television roles in Judd Apatow’s TRAINWRECK, NBC’s AP BIO and INSIDE AMY SCHUMER, amongst others. In November 2022 Nikki was a triumph coming in third place on the ninth season of the hit FOX series THE MASKED SINGER.
Nikki has multiple stand-up specials and late-night tv appearances in which she jokes about her most humiliating moments as a woman in the modern world. Nikki’s past and current struggles with anorexia, depression, and anxiety are fair game in both her stand-up, and in-depth interviews with THE HOWARD STERN SHOW, WTF with MARC MARON, CONAN O ́BRIEN NEEDS A FRIEND and THE JOE ROGAN EXPERIENCE. She has become a complete open book on mic for the laughs and as the empowering voice for women that she yearned for as a confused adolescent.
To close out our 2024 Hometown Sound Music Series, Hendersonville Theatre presents a special concert, BonaFide, featuring Paula Harris. BonaFide lives up to its name, delivering an authentic and soulful blend of Funk, Blues, and Soul that’s as genuine as it gets. As Rootstime Magazine in Belgium puts it, BonaFide “combines the passion and conviction of blues with the sophistication and complexity of jazz.” Their music is a groove-driven, funky, and delicious mix of original material and creatively reimagined classic soul and funk covers.
The powerhouse group is led by award-winning vocalist Paula Harris and acclaimed bassist Mike Frost, both of whom bring their diverse musical backgrounds to the forefront. What makes BonaFide truly special is that every member is a band leader in their own right: Paula Harris (Vocals) from Northern California, Mike Frost (Bass) from New York, Iliana Rose (Keys & Vocals) from Los Angeles, and Mike Gibilisco (Sax & Vocals) from Tampa. Together, they create a world-class sound that’s fresh, vibrant, and undeniably original.
To close out our 2024 Hometown Sound Music Series, Hendersonville Theatre presents a special concert, BonFide featuring Paula Harris. Just like the definition of the band’s name, BonaFide is “authentic, sincere or without artifice.” The band dishes out music that is “genuine & real” from organic instruments and no special effects. It is the result of a collaboration by vocalist Paula Harris and bassist Mike Frost, both musicians with jazz backgrounds and a love and appreciation of soul, funk, and blues. These two powerhouses have come together to create world-class original music and imaginative covers.
The six-member group sprang from the first time Harris and Frost worked together. The chemistry was so blatant, that they immediately began working on arrangements. Featuring technical precision, BonaFide offers a blend of multiple genres. Approachable with broad appeal, the group is influenced by many American music genres including groups like Stuff, Anita Baker, and Post Modern Jukebox. BonaFide is, simply put, great music from musicians at the top of their game, sophisticated, fresh, and fun!

With a legendary career spanning five decades, KANSAS has firmly established itself as one of America’s iconic classic rock bands. This “garage band” from Topeka released their debut album in 1974 after being discovered by Wally Gold, who worked for Don Kirshner, and have gone on to sell more than 30 million albums worldwide. Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library impacts the pre-literacy skills and school readiness of children under the age of 5 in Buncombe County. The program mails a new, free, age-appropriate book to registered children each month until they turn five years old. Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library creates a home library of up to 60 books and instills a love of books and reading from an early age. A national panel of educators selects the Imagination Library titles, which include: The Little Engine that Could, Last Stop on Market Street, Violet the Pilot, As an Oak Tree Grows, The Tale of Peter Rabbit, Llama Llama Red Pajama, Look Out Kindergarten, here I come, and many more (take a look at all the titles).

Program Launch and Expansions
Literacy Together became a Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library affiliate in November 2015 with support from the Buncombe Partnership for Children. Through this program, registered children in Buncombe County receive a free book in the mail each month. Their parents also have the opportunity to attend workshops to learn how to build their children’s early literacy skills. Parents in need of literacy assistance are encouraged to receive tutoring through Literacy Together’s adult programming.
The program served 200 children during the 2015/16 fiscal year. The program expanded to serve 400 children in July 2016, and 600 in August 2017. In July 2018, capacity increased to 1,900 thanks to a special allocation in the North Carolina state budget. We’re now serving 4,600 kids in Buncombe County.
Immerse yourself with the healing vibrations of a Sound Bath!
Join your host Kristin Hillegas, for a one-hour Serenity Sound Bath and experience a deeply immersive, full-body sound and vibrational experience. A sound bath can cleanse your soul, restore your balance, surround you with peace and tranquility and stimulate healing.
Note: Please bring a yoga mat/pillow/blanket since you will be lying on the floor. Wear warm, comfortable, and flexible clothing.
The Sound Bath will take place upstairs in the Education Building. Choose your space starting at 9:15 AM, doors close promptly at 9:30 AM.
This service is being offered on a Love Offering basis.(Suggested Value $25) Donations allow us to continue to provide these immersive experiences.
Accessible parking is available in the Center for Spiritual Living Asheville upper parking lot. The entrance to the upper parking lot is off of S. Bear Creek Rd between Science of Mind Way and Sand Hill Rd.
There is a boardwalk walk-way from the upper parking lot to the building entrance.
Jack’s Bluegrass Brunch kicks off every Sunday at 12 noon — with lively bluegrass tunes courtesy of The Jack of the Wood Bluegrass Brunch Boys from 1-3pm. Welcome to our weekly community contra dance in West Asheville! The Monday Night Dance has been around for decades, and we are carrying the torch forward! We are a loving, kind, and safe dance community and highly encourage masking during the dance. No derogatory comments in relation to masking will be tolerated! We encourage non-maskers to mask while partnering with a dancer wearing a mask, or to at least ask if the person would like them to mask while they dance with them.
Practicalities
Time: Contra dancing 8:15–10:30pm, with a beginner lesson starting at 7:45 and a waltz session ending the evening.
Location: St. George’s Center for Art and Spirit, 1 School Rd., Asheville, NC 28806
Cost: $12–$45 sliding scale, CASH ONLY. Please pay as much as you can afford to cover the cost of the wonderful live music, the caller, sound person, rent, and other expenses! ATMs are available at banks on Patton Ave., as well as cash back options at local gas stations and grocery stores.
Requirements: Face masks and sign-in agreeing to the dance’s Safety Guidelines.
Please enter through the front red doors to the sanctuary. Extra parking available in the lots between Moore’s Foot and Ankle and St. George’s (please avoid parking in front of their practice.) This is a scent-free dance. Please bring your own water and water bottle. Beginners are encouraged to attend! Beginner-friendly dances start the contra dancing in lieu of a lesson.
Community Focus
The Monday Night Dance is more than just a dance; the community is deeply rooted. Folks are welcome to sell their wares, like jewelry, dance shoes, dance clothes, pottery, etc. They are also welcome to leave business cards and help wanted or work needed ads. Additionally, the Take Some Leave Some Closet is a new feature of the MND. You can take any clothes, food, produce, feminine products or first aid supplies that we have, and as you are able you can also leave some to replenish. Private times to receive from the closet can also be arranged during the week depending on to the dance organizer’s availability.
Safety
We emphasize safety here at the MND. Mask wearing is strongly encouraged, and courtesy to those choosing to mask is required. No discrimination to those wearing masks will be tolerated! In addition, this is a family and LGBTQ-friendly dance and a safe event for ALL races, ethnicities, genders, ages, shapes, and sizes. Accordingly, no discrimination, inappropriate sexually predatory behavior, racist or discriminatory comments, bullying, or verbal or physical abuse of ANY kind will be tolerated. Ours is a dance built on volunteerism, and we need your help to survive! Please consider volunteering or becoming a patron by giving a monetary gift. Making connections is key to meeting business goals and building brand awareness. Mega Networking lets you do just that. In a relaxed and friendly atmosphere, you’ll meet business contacts from a variety of industries, gain exposure for your company and learn about other local businesses.
Held just twice a year, Mega Networking’s structured, “round robin” approach allows you to make valuable connections in a small group. Each person has a chance to share about their business, and a table leader moderates to put you at ease and keep the group on track. As you rotate from table to table, you’ll interact with most of the attendees, allowing you to make numerous connections in just one morning.
You’ll leave with great leads, great ideas and positive energy to keep your business moving forward.
Helpful tips:
- * Practice your “elevator speech” ahead of time so you can share your most important information in one minute.
- * Bring a little something to help others remember you and your business (something visual yet simple, AND your business card).
- * Stay “portable” — you’ll be moving from table to table throughout the morning.
- * If you’re a newcomer to this event, arrive a little early so you can settle in comfortably at your first table and learn the flow of the event without being rushed.
- * Schedule time now on your calendar to follow up soon with those you meet.
Cost is $50 per Chamber member, $85 for other attendees.
Susan is a native of the coal mining village of Shady Spring, West Virginia. As a child, she watched her mother, Mae Alice Taylor, weave functional baskets. In 2002, after back surgery limited Mae’s mobility, it was time for mother to pass to daughter her precious knowledge of the art of basket weaving. Susan describes that time as “finally coming home”. The combination of fibers and artistry had opened a new avenue of self-discovery for her. Susan’s baskets are known for their quality, attention to detail, and visual excitement. A ‘natural’ in 3-dimensional arts, Susan also enjoys pottery, gourd projects, jewelry making, beadwork, wood turning, and felting wool.

Dark City Poets Society Feedback Circle is canceled since Tuesday, November 5 falls on Election Day (go vote!), but Open Mic Poetry Night will be held on the third Tuesday, 11/19, from 6:00-7:30pm at Oak & Grist!
It may be difficult to put this past month into words, so if you currently don’t have anything to share, that is completely fine. Please know it is also okay and understandable to not be quite ready to hear poetry related to the hurricane. Just know we’ll be here whenever the time feels right for you.
As usual, signups to share will begin at 5:45 p.m. Instead of donating a portion of the drink sales to Friends of the Black Mountain Library, all proceeds will go back to supporting Oak & Grist.

In “Disney Jr. Live On Tour: Let’s Play” presented by Walmart, Mickey is getting ready for the biggest playdate ever at the Clubhouse with all his favorite pals including Minnie and Goofy, the Puppy Dog Pals, Ginny and Bitsy from “SuperKitties” and Ariel from “Disney Jr.’s Ariel,” but mysterious weather keeps interrupting the fun. Can Team Spidey from “Marvel’s Spidey and his Amazing Friends” find out who is behind this and help save the playdate?
Sing songs that celebrate Peace & Community, with Resident Teaching Artist Melissa McKinney. Sing, play, drum, and dance while learning songs from the Justice Choir Songbook.
