Mark your calendars! Haywood County will host the 1st Annual Smoky Mountain Yoga & Wellness Festival on June 21st right here on the Folkmoot Friendship Center campus. This is an all-embracing celebration honoring International Day of Yoga, Summer Solstice and whole-body wellness. Beginning with an Opening Ceremony at 10 am, the festival will offer yoga, qigong, tai chi, somatics and sound healing sessions, Wisdom & Wellness talks and workshops, Vendor Village with dozens of artists, artisans, outdoor activity gear and wellness related products, Food Truck Park, an herbal mocktail bar, children’s adventure center with free activities throughout the day, live entertainment, hula hooping, belly dancing and a drum circle, all culminating with a dynamic Closing Ceremony at 8 pm. Axis Yoga is the proud Presenting Sponsor, and Axis instructor Robin King is the founder and director of the festival. We invite you to bring your family, mats, blankets and camp chairs and settle in on The Green, the sports field adjacent to our buildings, for a full day of inspiration, deep connection and family fun. As a certified yoga teacher, Camilla sees movement as one of life’s greatest gifts. Every stretch and twist is an invitation to connect more deeply with the body you’ve been given – a chance to feel, to honor, and to be present. In this special hour-long solstice practice, Camilla will guide you through grounding movement designed to cultivate presence, awe, and embodiment as we transition with the shift of the season.
Each year, MountainTrue hosts a BioBlitz to record all the species we can find in a given area. We identify and catalog organisms using the online app iNaturalist. The BioBiltz this year will be on June 21st at Hickory Nut Gap Farm near Asheville, NC. Volunteers will hike with experts in reptiles/amphibians, mammals, birds, plants, and mushrooms. *Group sign-ups are taken at the event and are first come, first serve. Group availability is subject to change.
We will meet at 12:30 pm to complete waivers and sign-up for groups. The BioBlitz will kick off at 1 pm and end at 5 pm. But the fun doesn’t stop there. We hope our volunteers will stick around for the barn dance at Hickory Nut Gap from 6 to 9 pm. All BioBlitz volunteers will receive free admission to the barn dance.
There will be a food truck on site where you can purchase dinner. MountainTrue will provide snacks.
Please bring: water, sunscreen, bug spray, notebook (if desired), sturdy close-toed shoes and any snacks, etc. that you may need.
**Kids aged 6 and up are welcome to join if they are accompanied by a parent/guardian for the duration of the trip.

“Generous blood donors are critical to ensuring lifesaving care is available the moment patients need it,” said Jerri Goldberg, Executive Director, Western North Carolina Chapter. “It’s important to have blood products on the shelves when every second counts.”
The need for blood doesn’t take a summer vacation — immediate access to blood products is a key part of safety throughout the summer and the entire year. Donors of all blood types are urged to schedule an appointment to give blood to ensure a stable blood supply for patients in need.

“My journey as a physical therapist has developed greatly through the years. After graduating from Wheeling University in 2016, I spent time working in Virginia and West Virginia before falling in love with Asheville, North Carolina. I completed an orthopedic residency program in orthopedics in 2020 and became an Orthopedic Certified Specialist by the American Board of Physical Therapy Specialties (ABPTS). Since that time, I have also found my passion for treating individuals experiencing pelvic floor dysfunction. It quickly became clear to me that symptoms of urinary and fecal incontinence, frequency/urgency, pelvic pain, pain with sexual activity are under-reported and under-treated. I love empowering individuals to reclaim their confidence and help lift the feelings of isolation associated with it! I have completed extensive training to treat the pelvic health population through Herman and Wallace Pelvic Rehabilitation Institute, earning the Pelvic Rehabilitation Practitioner Certification, and Institute of Clinical Excellence.

During our time we will explore vocal exercises and sounds to activate your light language. The vocal exercises are great for clearing and moving energy throughout your body, while easing your nervous system. This creates space to allow more energetic flow through your whole being.
Following this interactive session, you then will lay down and receive sound and energy healing to integrate your process. We all have the ability to access light language and if you have been called or intrigued, please reach out!
