in subtle and clinical trauma, this workshop will educate participants about the effects of trauma and stress on the mind and body, along with providing tools for creating relaxation and healing. Each class begins with a lecture of how the nervous system functions in the body including relevant research on the impacts of trauma, moving into how yoga helps us work with trauma through research, and finally learning and practicing some skills that can help anyone to feel more at ease, empowered and in control in any yoga class.About the instructor: Holly Edmonson is a Registered Yoga Teacher (RYT) who currently teaches yoga at YWCA and the Charles George VA Medical Center.
The Releasing Trauma with Yoga series will be held every third Sunday of the month from November through March, 11:15 am – 1:15 pm in YWCA’s upstairs Group Fitness Studio. This workshop is free for YWCA of Asheville Fitness and Aquatics Members and $5 per session for non-members. Participants can register for the entire series or come to an individual session. All attendees must register in advance at YWCA’s Guest Services, online through this link, via email by emailing Fitness Coordinator Marty Edes at [email protected] or by phone by calling Marty at (828) 254-7206 x 213.
Join Dr. Neal Barnard on Mon., Mar. 16, 2020 at The Collider in Asheville to celebrate the release of his new book, Your Body in Balance: The New Science of Food, Hormones, and Health. Guests will hear remarks from Dr. Barnard about food’s effects on hormones and health.

Monthly support group meeting of the Hearing Loss Association of America – Asheville Chapter on Friday, March 20th from 4:30-6 pm. Topic is “Advocacy and Hearing Loss” presented by Susan Sacco, Asheville Regional Center – Division of Services for the Deaf and Hard of Hearing. New Location is OLLI at UNC Asheville Campus (Reuter Center), One University Heights, Room 206. CART and ASL Interpretation will be available. No parking permit required. Nation Anthem auditions are taking place Saturday, March 21st, from 10am-Noon at McCormick Field. Registration will begin no earlier than 9:45am. Individuals must attend the March 21 audition in order to be considered to perform the anthem on a gameday.
Bands, choirs, groups, and individuals should report to the seating bowl upon arrival to sign up. Auditions will take place on the field behind home plate. Each rendition of the Star-Spangled Banner is to last no longer than one minute and thirty seconds.
“Each game the National Anthem sets the tone for a great night at McCormick Field,” said Tourists Assistant General Manager Sam Fischer. “We are excited to select our National Anthem performers from the March 21st auditions.”
Singers who have performed the National Anthem at an Asheville Tourists game in the past will need to re-audition. Those selected to perform will be contacted at a later date. Any questions regarding the anthem tryouts should be directed to [email protected] with “National Anthem Auditions” in the subject line.

Early Bird Yoga
Join us on third Saturdays before the Museum opens for a fun-filled, 45-minute yoga and mindfulness meditation inspired by a visit to an artwork in our galleries. All ages and abilities are welcome; recommended for visitors aged 5+ (children must be accompanied by an adult). Bring your own mat, or borrow one from the Museum (limited quantity available). Starting on Tuesday, March 24, Ingles will dedicate the first shopping hour from 7 – 8 am on Tuesdays and Wednesdays to senior shoppers and those with compromised immune systems.
Publix Markets reserves 7-8 a.m. on Tuesdays and Wednesdays for customers age 65 and older. Home delivery is available through Instacart.
