How it Works:
Comics who are on the show will do 3-5m of comedy depending on how many sign up to participate. The show’s top comics will be selected by the paid audience in an anonymous ballet after all comics perform their sets.
Audience will select their favorite top comics of the evening who will be brought back to compete in our next round, date TBA. There are 3 competition rounds and a finale 5 comic Pageant who will vie for the crown, Asheville top-comic title & cash prize.

Eden Falls: A New Television Series Set to Film in Western North Carolina

Eden Falls, an exciting new television series currently in the development phase, aims to highlight the breathtaking natural beauty, rich culture, and resilient spirit of Western North Carolina. Helmed by award-winning screenwriter, director, and producer Melanie Star Scot, the series is poised to be filmed entirely in the stunning landscapes of the region that Scot proudly calls home.  Scot, with 17 years in the film-making industry, has worked on 30 projects which include writing, producing, and directing 5 of her own acclaimed films.
Eden Falls has already garnered overwhelming enthusiasm from both Hollywood professionals and local community supporters. The project is backed by a highly experienced Executive Producer with 25 years of expertise in Global Distribution from one of the largest and most successful production studios in the world. This seasoned executive recognizes the exceptional quality of Scot’s scripts and her strategic vision for the series, marking it as a prime candidate for success.  Eden Falls was written in the vein of the hugely successful equestrian series HEARTLAND meets JUSTIFIED, with a little bit of STEEL MAGNOLIAS humor sprinkled in.  The series is designed to be family-friendly and centers around a small Western NC town that is forever changed when an opulent Golf Resort/Country Club opens in the area.  The series focuses on challenges that the small town faces as it attempts to hold on to its ideals and personality in a rapidly changing world.
As the project progresses, Scot and her team are dedicated to keeping the community informed and engaged. They invite local stakeholders, supporters, and fans to stay connected through their social media channels for updates on upcoming events and opportunities to get involved.
A VIP red carpet screening of the POC will be held on April 12, 2025.  This screening is an invite-only event for cast, crew, and potential investors. Individuals and investors interested in invitations for this opportunity may contact Melanie Star Scot or Donna Lenss for VIP tickets and screening information.

Headliner Cayla Clark is an Asheville-based playwright, comedian, creator, and producer. While she is still new to the world of stand-up comedy, she has enjoyed exploring various other forms of comedy over the years, including sketch comedy, improv, and more. Since moving to Asheville, Cayla has had the opportunity to produce and host local comedic dating shows like Blind Date Live and Bad Date Mic. Public libraries are such a staple of American communities, but how did this system come to be? Celebrate (and investigate) the history of our public libraries! Join us for a screening + community-driven conversation of @IndependentLens’ Free for All: The Public Library at the Black Mountain Public Library. This one-hour documentary explores the transformative power of public libraries in America—from their pioneering origins to their enduring role as sanctuaries in the face of modern challenges like closures and book bans.

A Q&A session follows with Buncombe County Public Library Director Jason Hyatt and members of the Trust Fund for Buncombe County Public Libraries. Together, they’ll explore the issues raised in the film and discuss their relevance to libraries in our local community.

Beach Babes Standup Comedy Show brings the vibes to the mountains in the heart of downtown Asheville! Roman Fraden his not for the faint of heart. 18+
Roman is a Los Angeles-based comedian and a regular performer at classic Hollywood venues including The Comedy Store, The Laugh Factory, and The Hollywood Improv. He has trained with Upright Citizens Brigade (UCB) Theatre, performed in various ensemble casts in film and on stage, and has opened for Mark Normand, Margaret Cho, and Patton Oswald. His one man show ‘Back In The Closet’ made it’s world premiere at Edinburgh Fringe Festival in 2018. He currently is living in Asheville while still performing everywhere.

The 17th Annual Music Video Asheville showcases creative collaborations between musicians and filmmakers. Bands from Asheville and beyond submit their full-length music videos for a chance to win cash, a 100-album record pressing by American Vinyl Co and Donaldson Record Pressing Co, a day in the studio at Citizen Vinyl and recognition.

The annual event usually receives around 100 submissions, and approximately 30 of the best entries will be selected as finalists for viewing at the red-carpet runway awards ceremony on September 10, 2025, at Wortham Center’s Diana Wortham Theatre in downtown Asheville. The winners will be chosen by a judging panel of over 25 local and national judges. Attendees will have the chance to vote for People’s Choice.

“The film festival uses judging as an opportunity to share work with film and music industries in other parts of the country,” says MVA founder Jenny Greer Fares. “We’ve worked hard over the years to focus on the art form of putting visuals to music, storytelling, cinematography, etc… as opposed to hosting a popularity contest. We work as a team to get diverse judges from all over, who are experts in the music and film industries. The People’s Choice is a crowd favorite award and is the exception. Audience members text their favorite video selection at the event, and this usually is a locally loved act who deserves recognition, like Andrew Scotchie’s video “Love is Enough” in 2024.”

“This event was invented by musicians, and the filmmakers are the ones submitting the films and helping bring the artistic visions to life,” says Fares. “Filmmaking is very collaborative and so is music making. We want to celebrate those collaborations and Asheville’s culture.”

Retreat leader, educator and Jungian psychotherapist Diana McKendree leads a discussion exploring the world of dreamwork and how we might better understand our dreams. Part of Kanuga’s Lunch & Learn series. The Thursday, September 18 event begins with a forest bathing nature walk (weather permitting) at 10 a.m. McKendree’s “What Did You Dream Last Night?” discussion begins at 11 a.m., followed by a buffet lunch in Kanuga’s dining hall. Join us for an evening of stories and conversations about how we’ve helped one another, what we’ve lost, and what we’ve learned as our region continues to recover.

NC Local, in partnership with UNC Asheville and newsrooms across the state, is hosting this evening of connection and storytelling as part of UNC Asheville’s Post-Helene Symposium: “Remembering, Rebuilding and Reimagining.”

This free event is open to the public, but we ask you to register.

Carolina Memorial Sanctuary leads a conversation about death preparation, home funerals, and the cathartic act of participating in a loved one’s burial, Thurs. October 16 at Kanuga.
