Massachusetts-based artist Heather Maloney found music in the midst of three years at a meditation center, honing a sound moored in days of silent reflection and reverence for storytellers like Joni, Rilke, Ken Burns, and the anonymous authors of Zen parables.

With over 1,000 shows in the US & Canada, and 8 studio albums under her belt, she released her first live album, “No Shortcuts: Live at the Academy” in 2022.
Heather’s songs have played on NPR stations across the country and her live appearances have aired on syndicated programming like eTown and AudioTree. Her song “Nightstand Drawer” was used in the season finale of the CBS TV series “Elementary”, and her songs have also been featured on a number of editorial Spotify playlists & Starbucks’ in-store nationwide playlists.

Heather has toured throughout the US & Canada as a headliner and also in support of acts including Lake Street Dive, Shakey Graves, Gary Clark Jr., Rodrigo y Gabriela, Colin Hay (Men at Work), Mary Chapin Carpenter, Shawn Colvin, Dar Williams and many more.

Animal Birthday Party

On June 14, Flag Day, while Trump is spending millions of taxpayer dollars on a military parade and grandiose displays, ordinary citizens are coming together across the country for a nationwide day of defiance, standing up against tyranny and corruption. Here in Asheville, Indivisible Asheville/WNC and the NC Poor People’s Campaign will host “NO KINGS: Rise Together”-a celebration of collective power, community care, and purposeful action-in collaboration with many other community organizations, including Third Act WNC, Sunrise WNC, the WNC Workers Assembly, Asheville Alliance for Palestine Solidarity, Asheville Food and Beverage United (AFBU), The People’s Place, Center for Participatory Change, and others.

The day’s participatory activities offer many opportunities to connect and get involved:
* TAKE ACTION. Explore action-oriented tables hosted by community groups where you can do more than just collect flyers-you’ll have the chance to sign up for volunteer opportunities, take part in trainings, and contribute to real-time causes like food justice and immigrant rights
* GIVE BACK. Bring clothes, canned goods, and toiletries to contribute to the care package drive supporting hurricane relief in underserved communities. Stop by the postcard station to write to elected officials about urgent issues like Medicaid, disaster response, and the federal budget.
* LEARN and SHARE. Grab resources on ethical businesses, environmental action, internet safety, and civil disobedience strategies. Then visit the community voice booth to record a passionate video about what matters most to you-perfect for social media and outreach.
* GET CREATIVE. Leave your mark with an art piece and play games with a message-including cornhole, giant Jenga, ring toss, and a donation-based water balloon toss at a Trump cutout.
* CONNECT and CELEBRATE. Enjoy snacks from local vendors, explore community garden teachings, and join a scavenger hunt that guides you through every corner of the event with fun prizes to win.

We’ll begin with a short introduction to tall tales—a playful style of story where characters are bigger than life, the details are wildly exaggerated, and nothing is too impossible to imagine. Think tornado-taming, moon-jumping, pancake-stacking kind of adventures.
Then, kids will explore the gallery to find a piece of art that sparks their own tall tale. With notebooks in hand, they’ll write their stories and return for a joyful story-sharing circle to close the night.

Whether you’re single and ready to mingle or just there to see sparks fly, this is your chance to witness true love unfold in real time. Doors open at 6:30 PM, and we’re kicking things off with a sultry mixer from 6:30pm – 7:30pm to set the mood. Slip into the crowd, grab a drink, and who knows—you might just lock eyes with someone special. Or… maybe they’re just looking for the bathroom. How about that one? Oh, nope, they’re waving to their friend behind you. Awkward.

2025 MountainTrue BioBlitz at Hickory Nut Gap Farm

Each year, MountainTrue hosts a BioBlitz to record all the species we can find in a given area. We identify and catalog organisms using the online app iNaturalist. The BioBiltz this year will be on June 21st at Hickory Nut Gap Farm near Asheville, NC. Volunteers will hike with experts in reptiles/amphibians, mammals, birds, plants, and mushrooms. *Group sign-ups are taken at the event and are first come, first serve. Group availability is subject to change.

We will meet at 12:30 pm to complete waivers and sign-up for groups. The BioBlitz will kick off at 1 pm and end at 5 pm. But the fun doesn’t stop there. We hope our volunteers will stick around for the barn dance at Hickory Nut Gap from 6 to 9 pm. All BioBlitz volunteers will receive free admission to the barn dance.

There will be a food truck on site where you can purchase dinner. MountainTrue will provide snacks.

Please bring: water, sunscreen, bug spray, notebook (if desired), sturdy close-toed shoes and any snacks, etc. that you may need.

**Kids aged 6 and up are welcome to join if they are accompanied by a parent/guardian for the duration of the trip.

After a life-changing phone call, Rich became an everyday hero, helping to coordinate an international rescue operation for his niece, Loan, who became a victim of human trafficking in Malaysia. A Special guest will be joining virtually to share in this multidimensional story.
This journey to freedom exposes the hidden reality of modern slavery- and the strength it takes to reclaim one’s life.
